ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Colin Embley scored the game-tying goal with 47 seconds left in regulation, then notched the game-winner in the shootout as Fresno escaped with a 4-3 win over Anchorage before 2,453 Tuesday at Sullivan Arena.

The Falcons gained a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game as Jason McBain finished off a 2-on-0 by whipping Kris Porter's pass by Aces' starter Christian Soucy. Anchorage tied the game on the power play at 13:44, as Dave Csumrik delivered a gorgeous feed to Ryan Moren, who tucked home the equalizer for his third goal of the season. Kevin McNeill converted a breakaway less than three minutes later for his fifth goal in six games, and the Aces grabbed a 2-1 edge after the opening 20 minutes.

Embley lifted Fresno into a 2-2 tie 4:28 into the second period, but Yvan Corbin stripped the puck cleanly from Falcon defenseman Kirk DeWaele and snapped the go-ahead goal (his league-leading 35th of the season) by Mark Gowan at 16:26 to give the Aces a 3-2 margin heading into the final period. But with 1:58 to play, Tim Donnelly was whistled for an illegal stick, and Embley banged in a one-timer on the ensuing power play at 19:13 to force a shootout. Embley and McBain scored in the extra session for Fresno, while Gowan turned away Corbin, Kimbi Daniels, Dean Larson, and Paul Williams in succession to preserve the win. The Falcons (29-19-5 overall) have beaten the Aces nine straight times this year, with two of those victories coming in shootouts. Sixth-place Anchorage trails fourth-place Fresno by 34 points with 16 games left to play on its schedule, meaning that the Aces have been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention.

Anchorage (13-40-3) and Fresno, which has won 10 of its last 11 road games, do battle once more at Sullivan Arena tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
