Bakersfield Condors News Release

Long Beach, Calif. – Jeff Goldie's power play goal with 5:25 remaining in regulation snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Bakersfield Condors their fifth straight win, 2-1 over the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Wednesday night from the Long Beach Arena.

The Ice Dogs took a 1-0 lead in this one, on their first shot of the game. Jamie O'Leary blasted home a one-timer from the right circle for the advantage. Jamie Cooke recorded his 26th of the season later in he period to tie the game at 1-1. He finished off a centering pass from J.J Wrobel at 12:23. The first period ended 1-1 with both teams putting up nine shots.

In a very quick-moving second period, the score remained the same. The Condors banged 14 shots on goal, but Danielle Dube stopped them all for the Ice Dogs, while Kevin St. Pierre turned aside 12 shots in the middle frame. The Ice Dogs had two power plays in the period, but the Condors, who own the league's second-best penalty killing unit, killed off both chances.

The third period continued in much the same fashion, without either team creating much in the way of scoring opportunities. The biggest save of the period came by Dube, who stopped Paul Willett on a breakaway midway through the period. The big break, however, came when the Condors were given a power play later on. Wes Swinson's blast was kicked out, and the rebound was swung into the middle of the ice for Goldie, who buried it for the 2-1 lead and his 21st of the season. St. Pierre finished with 28 saves for the 150th win of his professional career. Meanwhile, Dube stopped 29 shots in the losing effort.

In the shootout, the Condors received goals from Goldie, Willett and Quinn Fair, while St. Pierre stopped four of the Gulls six shooters for the victory. Gulls leading scorer R.J. Enga was denied by St. Pierre to clinch the win in the sudden death shootout. The win snapped a string of eight consecutive shootout losses for Bakersfield.

The Condors remain on the road this week as they head to Anchorage for two games against the Aces on Friday and Saturday. Both games start at 8:00pm (PST), and can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to face off.

They return home to face the Fresno Falcons on Tuesday, March 4th at 7:00pm. That game is the final WB 12 and KISS 96.5 Student ID Night, which gives all college and high school students the opportunity to purchase lower level seats for just $1. The first 1,000 fans that night will also receive a set of Condors Mardi Gras beads, sponsored by FOX 98.5 and The Prime Cut.
