Indy Fuel News Release
TOLEDO, OH - In the fourth of five head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel earned one standings point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Toledo Walleye on Saturday at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. With the shootout loss, the Fuel improved to 25-25-4-5 overall this season and with 59 points, sit tied for fifth place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
After Toledo claimed a 1-0 lead at 7:11 of the opening period on a Cody Lampl power-play score, Indy's Kyle Stroh tied the game at one at 14:37 as the Vibank, Saskatchewan native took advantage of a Toledo turnover and posted his 19th marker of the season. In the middle frame, even-strength Fuel scores from Chris DeSousa at 2:01 and Rhett Bly at 17:35 bookended a Walleye tally from Troy Schwab at 11:11 to send Indy to the third period up by a 3-2 margin. The Walleye notched the final period's only goal at 13:58 as Kyle Bonis forced overtime with his team-leading 28th tally of the season.
After a scoreless extra session, the Walleye received shootout conversions from Troy Schwab, Tyler Barnes and A.J. Jenks in the second, third and fifth rounds as Indy conversions from Pete Massar and Nicklas Lindberg weren't enough for the Fuel. Former Walleye goaltender Mac Carruth was sensational in net for the Fuel with 37 saves in defeat while Neil Conway earned the win in net for Toledo with 28 stops.
