Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK - For a third straight game, Tulsa Oilers' goaltender Kevin Carr turned in a clinical performance between pipes and backstopped his team to victory. Carr stopped 31 shots on Saturday night at the BOK Center to help the Oilers to a 3-1 triumph over the Brampton Beast. Tulsa won its third consecutive contest and improved to 7-0-0 this season against Brampton. Most importantly, the Oilers captured two more precious points and moved into a tie for the fourth and final Central Division playoff spot.

A back-and-forth first period ended with the Beast holding a 1-0 advantage thanks to the third goal of the season from defenseman Dalton Thrower at 18:55. Just seconds after Brampton center Cal Wild was denied on a partial breakaway, Thrower alertly picked up the loose puck near the top of the Tulsa zone and skated into the slot where he ripped a shot through Carr.

The Oilers leveled the contest on their first shift of the second period when T.J. Caig shoveled a rebound past Beast goalie Ryan Demelo with just 48 seconds off the clock. Caig, who has appeared in all 59 games this season, became the fifth Oiler to reach the 20-goal mark. Less than four minutes later, center Kyle Bochek cruised down the left wing and dialed up a heavy slap shot that whizzed past Demelo to give Tulsa its first lead of the night. Bochek's fifth tally of the season put the Oilers up 2-1, a lead that would stand up throughout the remainder of the period.

Carr stared down 13 shots in the third period and made a signature stop on Jeff Brown in the latter stages of regulation. A nifty centering feed from Brett Lyon found the tape of Brown but Carr slid from his right to his left to eliminate the opportunity and keep the Oilers in front. For the second night in a row, Tommy Mele found the empty net to put the finishing touches on Tulsa's 30th win of the season.

Carr, who earned first star honors, has allowed only two goals in his last nine periods and has saved 97 of the last 99 shots he has faced. The Oilers went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill and have played three straight games without giving up a power play goal. Tulsa, 8-2-0 in its last 10 games, has held Brampton to two goals or fewer in six of the seven meetings this season.

The Oilers will look to complete a perfect weekend when they complete the season series against the Beast at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
