South Carolina Sets ECHL Record with 18th Consecutive Win

March 14, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The South Carolina Stingrays set a new record for the longest winning streak in the ECHL's 27-year history on Saturday, posting their 18th consecutive victory with a 6-0 win against the Gwinnett Gladiators at the North Charleston Coliseum.

South Carolina's winning streak breaks the old record of 17, set by the Cincinnati Cyclones from Jan. 13-Feb. 29, 2008.

The Stingrays set a new ECHL record for longest road winning streak with their 11th straight win away from home on Friday with a 4-0 win at Gwinnett.

Entering play on Feb. 7, the day the winning streak began, South Carolina was 18-18-7 and in sixth place of the East Division, trailing a playoff spot by 10 points. The winning streak has catapulted the Stingrays into third place of the division, and to within seven points of first-place Florida.

South Carolina has outscored its opponents 78-24 during the streak, and goaltenders Jeff Jakaitis and Adam Morrison have combined to post shutouts in five of the 18 games.

The Stingrays' current 18-game win streak is also one better than the National Hockey League record, held by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins. The all-time North American hockey record for longest winning streak is held by the American Hockey League's Norfolk Admirals, who won 28 consecutive games during the 2012-13 season.
