December 8, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
LAST WEEK'S RECORD: 0-2-0 OVERALL RECORD: 7-13-1, 15 pts.
Dec. 2 vs. Atlantic City, 8-3 Loss â The defending Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies scored three times in a 2:56 span of the first period to run away with an 8-3 victory. Brad Mehalko, Kevin Truelson and Dominic Periard all scored for Fresno.
Dec. 5 @ Bakersfield, 5-1 Loss â Playing against the Bakersfield Condors and looking to break a six-game losing streak, the Falcons fell behind 2-0 in the first period for the fifth time in six games. Greg Bullock's lone tally mid-way through the second wasn't nearly enough as Fresno fell, 5-1, tying the club record for most consecutive losses with seven.
THIS WEEK'S UPCOMING GAMES
Tuesday, Dec. 9 vs. Alaska, 7 p.m. â The Falcons welcome the first place Alaska Aces to town as they try to avoid setting a new team record for most consecutive losses. The game is a Carl's Jr. Two-for-Tuesday, with two-for-one coupons available at all participating Carl's Jr. restaurants.
Wednesday, Dec. 10 vs. Charlotte, 7 p.m. â The Southern Division's Charlotte Checkers are the second team to visit Fresno that was not part of the West Coast Hockey League last season. The game is the Falcons' first Singles' Night, sponsored by On the Rocks, Y101 and WB 59. The night includes a pre-game Singles Party at Save Mart Center, discounted tickets to the game in Singles Section 101 and a Singles Night After Party at On the Rocks. Log on to www.Y101hits.com for all the details.
Friday, Dec. 12 vs. Long Beach, 7 p.m. â The Falcons host the Long Beach Ice Dogs as they hold their Fourth Annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans bringing a brand new stuffed animal to the game will receive a voucher for a free ticket to an upcoming Falcons game. When Fresno scores its first goal, fans will toss their stuffed animals down onto the ice, which will be donated to Community Medical Center and Fresno Child Abuse Prevention.
Sunday, Dec. 14 vs. Las Vegas, 5 p.m. â The expansion Las Vegas Wranglers and their head coach Glen Gulutzan, the Falcons' all-time leading scorer, make their first trip to Save Mart Center. The team will honor Gulutzan by retiring his #21 jersey during a pre-game ceremony and giving away Bobblehead Dolls in his likeness to the first 2,000 fans in attendance.
NOTES
· Greg Bullock took over the team's goal-scoring lead with his 10th of the year in Bakersfield last Friday. As he has most of the season, he still leads the club in overall scoring with 25 points (10g-15a).
· Falcons goaltender Nolan Schaefer, who was assigned to the team by the San Jose Sharks at the beginning of the season, won his second game this past Friday night after getting called up to the American Hockey League's Cleveland Barons. He stopped 42 of 43 shots to lead the Barons to a 4-1 victory over the St. John's Maple Leafs. In two AHL starts, Schaefer is 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and 95.7% save percentage.
THIS WEEK'S PRACTICE TIMES
The Falcons will skate Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at Save Mart Center at 10 a.m. Thursday's practice will be held at Gateway Ice Center at 10 a.m. Saturday's ice time, if any, will be announced later in the week.
