Titans Come Up Short Against Nailers 2-1

Trenton Devils News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Titans came in to WesBanco Arena for the third time in eight days finding themselves, again, in a "must-win" situation. After falling to the Dayton Bombers on Saturday night, the Titans looked to take two points from the Wheeling Nailers in order to keep pace with their rivals in the Northern Division. The Titans, however, could not wield the same magic as they did last Sunday in Wheeling.

The Titans found themselves in trouble early as Chris Barr was sent to the penalty box just 2:35 in the first period for interference. The Nailers would capitalize on the ensuing power play as Jason Jaffray tipped J.C. Ruid's wrister through the Andrew Allen's pads for a 1-0 lead.

Wheeling would extend their lead to two, again with the help of their special teams. In the second period, Chris McNamara intercepted Scott Bertoli's pass at the Titans blueline and put a backhander over the shoulder of Allen to make it 2-0

The Titans struggled to find their offense all evening, managing only 17 shots on goalie Nick Boucher. Trenton would cut the Nailer lead to one late in the game with Ruid in the box for tripping. Bertoli floated a shot from the point which deflected off a body in front of Boucher and into the net with just :66 seconds remaining. The Nailers would fend off the Titans' late push with the extra attacker to come away with the 2-1 win. Allen made 28 of 30 saves in the loss

The Titans take on the Greensboro Generals on Friday, December 12 at 7:30pm. Trenton continues its weekend road trip with a matchup versus the reading Royals on Saturday, December 13 at 7:05pm.
