Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
Another former Thunder Bay Border Cats player reached the major leagues on Thursday after Jacob Robson made his debut with the Detroit Tigers.ÃÂ The 26-year-old outfielder came into the game in the 6th inning as a pinch hitter against the Baltimore Orioles and finished 0-for-2 at the plate in the Tigers 6-4 win at Camden Yards.ÃÂ
Robson appeared in 19 games for the Border Cats in 2014 and was selected by Detroit in the 8th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Mississippi State University.ÃÂ The Windsor, Ont., native started the 2021 season with the Double "A" Erie SeaWolves where he played in 18 games.ÃÂ He then moved to the Triple "A" Toledo Mud Hens where he played in 51 games and hit a combined .316 with seven home runs and 33 runs batted in between the two stops.ÃÂ
Robson also suited up for Team Canada earlier this season in an Olympic qualifier tournament in Florida.ÃÂ
He becomes the ninth former Border Cat to reach the major leagues and is the first Canadian born player from the Border Cats alumni to appear in an MLB game.ÃÂ
