(Allentown, PA) - Lehigh Valley scored five runs against Steven Wright in the first inning, then after battling back to within one run Pawtucket allowed three runs in the eighth and the IronPigs held off the PawSox, 9-6, on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park in the opener of a three-game series.

Garin Cecchini recorded four hits and IL All-Star Jackie Bradley, Jr. slammed his fifth home run of the season, but Pawtucket (38-49) dropped its tenth-consecutive game. Wright (2-4) allowed six hits in the first inning, including a two-run double to Russ Canzler and a two-run single to Logan Moore.

After falling behind 5-0, the PawSox battled back by scoring a pair of runs in the second and fifth innings. The teams then traded runs and Lehigh Valley led 6-5 with two outs in the eighth with Pawtucket having the bases loaded after an infield RBI single by Quintin Berry.

Reliever Seth Rosin escaped the jam by inducing a groundout from Jemile Weeks that kept the IronPigs ahead by one run.

Lehigh Valley then plated three big runs against Pat Light in the bottom of the inning, starting with a leadoff home run from Canzler (6) and finishing with consecutive two-out RBI hits from Edgar Duran and Chase d'Arnaud that made the score 9-5.

Bradley's solo homer led off the ninth against Juan Gutierrez, but the PawSox could get no closer as Gutierrez recorded two strikeouts in the inning to finish the victory. Dustin McGowan (2-1) relieved IronPigs' starter David Buchanan in the fourth inning and earned the victory after allowing two runs in three innings of work.

Cecchini's RBI single highlighted the two-run rally against Buchanan in the second, while RBI doubles from Weeks and Carlos Peguero provided the runs against McGowan in the fifth that brought the PawSox to within 5-4. Lehigh Valley scored a two-out unearned run in the bottom of the fifth on a throwing error by Weeks.

Wright retired 11 consecutive hitters between the second and fifth innings and ending up allowing six runs (five earned) on 117 pitches thrown in six full innings pitched. Jess Todd pitched a scoreless seventh before Light was charged with three runs on four hits in the eighth.

Cecchini went 4-for-5, all singles, with one RBI to pace the PawSox 13-hit attack. Berry (2-for-5, RBI), Bradley (2-for-5, RBI) and Peguero (2-for-3, 2 walks, RBI) each had multi-hit nights. Canzler and Duran each had three of the IronPigs 13 knocks, with Canzler driving home three runs.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night with first pitch is slated for 7:05pm. Right-hander Joe Kelly (0-1, 2.77) will get the start for Pawtucket while Lehigh Valley has yet to announce a probable pitcher. Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.

The PawSox return home on Friday, July 10th to welcome Lehigh Valley for a three-game series that will lead into the Triple-A All-Star Break. Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
