Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) claimed their sixth straight win over the Syracuse Chiefs with a 5-1 performance on Tuesday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (47-40) have held the Chiefs (31-55) to two runs or fewer in four straight meetings.
Wilking Rodriguez (1-0) took home the win in his debut with the RailRiders. The right-hander fired a scoreless fifth inning in relief of Luis Severino, striking out one. Severino bulled his way through four innings on 85 pitches. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits while walking two and fanning four.
Rob Refsnyder wasted no time in opening the scoring against Paolo Espino (2-3). The second baseman slammed his second home run in as many days over the left-center wall with one down in the first frame. The solo shot was his seventh of the year.
Espino surrendered five runs on 11 hits over 6.1 innings in the loss. Ben Gamel notched two RBI thanks to a run-scoring single in the fifth and double in the seventh. Juan Graterol made it 2-0 RailRiders on a single to left in the second stanza. Cole Figueroa capped the scoring in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to left.
Caleb Ramsey provided the only run for Syracuse on a two-out single off Severino in the fourth that scored Ricky Hague.
