Rochester Red Wings News Release

Sean Ochinko's four-hit night helped pace a 15-1 Buffalo Bisons rout of the Rochester Red Wings Tuesday night at Frontier Field. The Wings loss, combined with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's win, dropped the Wings into second place.

The Thruway Cup series with Buffalo continues Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m., another $1 Wednesday, with $1 Zweigle's hot dogs, peanuts, chips, and Cracker Jack. .Complete promotion details below...

The Bisons got on the scoreboard first, when Ochinko hit his second home run of the season in the second inning. The one-out solo shot, off Red Wings starter Greg Peavey, put Buffalo ahead 1-0. The Bisons managed two more singles in the inning, but Peavey struck out Melky Mesa for the second time to end the inning.

Buffalo starter Daniel Norris breezed through the first six Wings batters he faced, striking out two.

The Bisons added to their lead in the third inning. The league's leading hitter, Matt Hague, hit his fifth home run of the season to make it 2-0. After an Andy Burns single, Ochinko drove Burns home with a double to increase the Bisons' lead to 3-0.

Norris, who began the season in the Toronto Blue Jays' rotation, struck out the first two Wings hitters in the third before Carlos Paulino singled for the first baserunner of the night against Norris.

Buffalo got on the board again in the fifth inning. Hague hit a one out double, and later advanced to third on a passed ball. With runners on the corners, Andy Burns had a base hit, scoring Hague, and ending Peavey's night. In 4 1/3 innings pitched, Peavey (0-3) gave up 9 hits, 6 runs (4 earned), and struck out 4. Peavey threw 92 pitches, 57 for strikes.

Cole Johnson took over for Peavey in the inning, but the struggles on the mound continued and the Wings were down 8-0 at the end of five.

The Wings finally got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth, as Oswaldo Arcia hit a solo shot, his sixth of the season. The homer extended Arcia's hitting streak to nine games, and was his fifth home run during the streak.

Johnson was able to settle down in the sixth inning, retiring the side, the first such inning of the game for the Wings. After allowing a one out single in the seventh, and a fourteen pitch at bat leading to a Kawasaki walk, Johnson's night came to an end.

Logan Darnell entered the game in relief of Johnson, and quickly found himself in a bases loaded situation after Polanco's second error of the night. Melky Mesa hit a bases-clearing three RBI double. Darnell got Hague to hit into a double play, ending the scoring and the inning.

Norris (2-8) allowed just four hits and a run over seven innings, with no walks and eight strikeouts. Norris threw 92 pitches, 62 for strikes.

Alex Meyer finished the game on the mound, and allowed two runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings.

The Bisons, who were batting just .203 as a team against the Wings in the previous six games between the clubs, posted 21 hits while the Wings were held to five. It was the most lopsided loss of the season for Rochester, topping the 13-3 Wings loss to Scranton June 12.
