Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Frontier League announced the 2010 All-Star teams Monday afternoon and five Gateway Grizzlies have been chosen.
First baseman Logan Parker, Outfielders Brandon Peters and Jason Patton, Catcher Charlie Lisk and Pitcher Mark Brackman will represent the West Division in the mid-summer classic to be held at Southern Illinois' Rent One Park July 14th. Lisk has been selected the previous three seasons.
"I am very proud of the players," said Grizzlies Manager Phil Warren. "They are deserving of this opportunity and I know they will represent the Grizzlies and the West Division accordingly."
"Brandon Peters, Jason Patton, Logan Parker and Charlie Lisk are all an integral part of the Grizzlies offense," continued Warren. "Each have put together outstanding offensive numbers to this point in the season. I look forward to watching them finish the season strong at the plate."
Heading into Tuesday's contest, all four offensive players sit one through four in batting average on the Grizzlies statistics sheet. Patton leads the way hitting .326 with five home runs and 33 RBIs, Peters follows batting .324 with nine home runs and 25 RBIs, Parker's average is .308 with three home runs and 27 RBIs and Lisk finishes it off batting .272 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs. Patton's .326 average is sixth best in the Frontier League while Peters' .324 is seventh while Lisk's 12 Home Runs lead the league.
Brackman, is currently sitting on a 3-4 record for the 2010 season. In nine starts, he's allowed 62 hits in 61.2 innings pitched. Mark has struck out 51 batters compared to 17 walks and opponents are batting .261 against him.
"Mark has outstanding stuff on the mound and is a fierce competitor," stated Warren. "Mark is very deserving and I look forward to watching him compete the second half of the season as well."
Along with the five players selected, Grizzlies Manager Phil Warren was chosen by Mike Pinto, Southern Illinois Miners Manager to join his All-Star Coaching Staff. This will be Warren's second stint during his managerial career to go to the All-Star game along with his two All-Star appearances during his playing career.
"I am proud to add Phil to our coaching staff," Pinto said. "We have had a great relationship the last four seasons, have had mutually beneficial trades with each other and I have great appreciation for the job he has done with the Grizzlies. I always look forward to competing against his squad so it was natural for me to add him to our all-star staff."
The Grizzlies host three home games before the All-Star break starting Tuesday evening when the Kalamazoo Kings come in town. Tickets and group packages are still available by calling the Grizzlies ticket office at (618) 337-3000, online at gatewaygrizzlies.com or by stopping at the GCS Ballpark box office.
