
Beach Bums Fall to Miners, 8-3

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
The Traverse City Beach Bums bookended their game with the Southern Illinois Miners with a first inning run and a homer in the eighth, but the Southern Illinois Miners scored in the middle frames, taking an 8-3 final over TC.
Traverse City got off to a good start when Matt Brown singled to lead off the game, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Brown then stole second and moved to third on a Chase Burch single, before a J. T. Hall groundout brought Brown home for a 1-0 Beach Bums lead.
Southern Illinois got their first runs of the game with a three-run third, keyed by a two-run single from Stephen Head to go up 3-1. The Miners would post four runs in the sixth thanks to back-to-back homers from Head and Nate Hall.
Traverse City would rally for two runs in the eighth inning as the recently named All-Star, Burch cracked his seventh homerun of the season to centerfield, a two-run shot to pull to within 7-3. The Miners would add a ninth inning tally to create the final score.
Joe Augustine (7-0) picked up the win for Southern Illinois with 7.1 innings of three run ball. Kevin Reese (5-4) took the loss. Trent DeLazzer was impressive in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings, keeping the Beach Bums in the game.
With his two hits in the game, Chase Burch is now an astonishing 9-for-16 against Southern Illinois on the year with a homer and six RBI. The Beach Bums also saw Brown steal a pair of bases and score two runs. The TC rightfielder is hitting .434 in his hitting streak with 15 runs scored. Brown has crossed the plate now in seven straight games.
The Beach Bums and Miners tangle again on Wednesday night with Jonny Bravo (1-0, 2.48) on the mound for TC against Eric Fussell (4-1, 5.40 for Southern Illinois. Wednesday is a big night at Wuerfel Park with Traverse Bay Marine Sea Ray Night, Cherry Queen Night and a Winning Wednesday all rolled into one.
