Rogers Hits Walk-Off Home Run in Extra-Innings Win

(EVANSVILLE, Ind.)- Washington took the lead in the top of the 11th inning but Jake Rogers hit a three-run walk off home run in the bottom half in an Evansville 7-5 win at Bosse Field.

The night got underway with the Wild Things leading 4-0 but the Otters rallied back to tie the game.

Evansille scored their first run on a solo home run from Vinnie Scarduzio in the fifth inning. Down 4-1, the Otters came through again in the sixth. With two runners on base, Brandon Cohen hit a fly ball to center field that Chris Sidick lost. The ball fell in for a hit as a pair of runs came in to score. Greg Alexander then tied the game in the eighth with an RBI single up the middle as both teams were now tied at four runs apiece.

Reliever Jared Simon stranded a runner at third with one out in the ninth inning as the Otters and Wild Things surged ahead into extra innings.

Joel Hartman pushed Washington ahead in the top of the 11th inning against Evansville reliever Kyle Barry. Ahead 5-4, Eryk McConnell remained in the game to try and seal the victory. The reliever allowed back to back walks before Jake Rogers belted a walk-off three-run home run to left field to win the game.

As Rogers crossed home plate, he was mobbed by his fellow Evansville Otters teammates. A few moments later, the Otters third baseman was also pied with a face full of shaving cream in front of many kids wanting Rogers' autograph.

Evansville improves to 16-27 with the win in the first game under interim manager Bill McKeon. Washington is currently 18-25 this season.

Washington and Evansville will meet again tomorrow night in the middle game of this series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CST at Bosse Field.
