EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (1-0) had a pristine all-around performance to give the Ottawa Titans (0-1) their first playoff loss in Game One of the Frontier League Championship Series on Tuesday night, 6-0.
Garret Simpson was on the mound for Evansville against Eric Pardinho for Ottawa, both of them making their second postseason starts.
Evansville scored first with a solo home run by Dennis Pierce in the first inning, his second of the postseason.
It was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings, remaining 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Evansville brought across two runs on back-to-back RBI singles from Blake Robertson and Sam Linscott.
Amani Jones extended the lead in the seventh with an RBI single before Logan Brown brought in two more to make it 6-0.
Simpson was dominant, finishing with a season-high seven scoreless innings while picking up seven strikeouts. Alex Valdez got the last two innings and took care of business, the two of them combining to not allow a hit from Ottawa's offense in the last five innings.
