Evansville Otters Announce Coaching Changes
Published on July 6, 2010 under Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters confirmed today that manager Wayne Krenchicki and his coaching staff have been relieved of their duties. Krenchicki's overall record with the Otters was 43-93, including 15-27 this season. The Otters finished 28-66 in 2009, Krenchicki's first year in Evansville.
"Both Wayne and I were disappointed with the club's performance this season," said Otters president Bill Bussing. "We are committed to fielding a team that competes for the Frontier League championship, and it became obvious to me that a change of leadership was warranted. Wayne's record as a manager in the Atlantic League was outstanding, but he has not enjoyed the same success here."
Bussing announced that former Frontier League manager Andy McCauley will succeed Krenchicki. McCauley, 41, guided the London Werewolves to the 1999 Frontier League championship with a 53-30 record. McCauley also won the Northern League championship in 2008 as manager of the Kansas City T-Bones.
"We're confident of Andy's ability to win in the Frontier League," said Bussing.
A 1991 graduate of Mansfield (Pa.) University, McCauley has steered eight of the 12 independent teams he has managed into the playoffs. His overall record is 502-509. McCauley was named manager of the year in the Frontier League in 1999 and in the Northern League in 2004.
"Under Andy's leadership, we believe we can challenge for a playoff berth with a strong second half performance," said Bussing. The Otters are 6 games behind in the race for the Western Division's second playoff spot.
Rick Dehart and Rob Watson will join McCauley as the Otters' pitching and hitting coaches, respectively.
McCauley is expected to arrive in Evansville later this week. Until then, local baseball veteran Bill McKeon will manage the Otters, who return to action Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. against Washington at Bosse Field. McKeon is a former professional player, coach, and scout.
The Otters have been members of the Frontier League since 1995. They are currently the oldest franchise in the league. The Bussing family has owned the team since 2001.
