
Sheldon Shuts Down Cruisers

NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, topped the visiting Oakland County Cruisers Tuesday night at the Corn Crib 6-3 courtesy of a gem from starter Ryan Sheldon. Sheldon worked eight innings allowing only three hits, and two earned runs to cross the plate. All three runs came before the fourth inning, before Sheldon tossed five scoreless including seven strikeouts.
Normal got their offensive sparks in the second and third innings when they plated three runs in each frame. Leading the way for the CornBelters was left fielder Eric Brown who went 2-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Also getting in on the action was shortstop Jeff Cowan, third basemen Daniel Cox and designated hitter Mike Hughes who each had an RBI of their own. Right fielder Asif Shah also went 2-3 with a double and a triple on the night.
Normal meets Oakland County at the Corn Crib for the second of the three game series Wednesday night with Normal starter Brett Lester going up against Cruisers' starter Wayde Kitchens, first pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
