Five Doubles Power Tribe to Series Sweep
August 28, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
Dan Gamache went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Sunday. (Dave Wegiel) TOLEDO, Ohio - Alen Hanson doubled and scored twice while Willy Garcia drove in a pair of runs as the Indians completed a two-game sweep of Toledo, 6-2, on Sunday.
The two teams combined for eight doubles with Hanson and Danny Ortiz both notching a pair.
Indianapolis (66-69) got on the board in the first thanks to leadoff double by Hanson, who scored on a knock from Jose Osuna.
Tribe starter Frank Duncan's scoreless innings streak ended at 24.0 in the first inning. The streak finished as the longest of any International League pitcher this season, trailing only Tacoma's Cody Martin (24.1) among Triple-A hurlers.
Duncan recorded one out before Steven Moya doubled home Jeff McVaney and later scored to put Toledo (63-73) ahead.
The Indians responded in the second with two runs of their own. Willy Garcia doubled home Max Moroff and came across on an RBI single from Dan Gamache. The two-bagger was Garcia's 27th of the year - a new career high.
Two more runs came home for the Tribe in the fifth, again catalyzed by Gamache and Hanson. Moroff walked and scored again in the sixth to round out the final tally on the day at 6-2.
Duncan finished with 4.0 innings of work. He gave up five hits, allowed two earned runs, walked three, and struck out six. Jorge Rondon (6-4) received the win while Donn Roach (2-1) took the loss for the Hens.
The Indians open their final homestand of 2016 on Monday at 7:05 p.m. against the Mud Hens. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
