Jaye's Dominant Outing Propels Toledo over Columbus
August 28, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
A night after winning the International League West Division crown for the third straight year, Columbus' offense was stymied by Toledo (62-71) right hander Myles Jaye (1-2) on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field, as the 24-year-old pitched a gem, carrying his team to a 5-1 win over the Clippers (78-55) in front of an audience of 8,548.
Jaye allowed one unearned run on three hits while walking two batters and striking out eight in six and 1/3 innings of work.
Clippers starter in righty Toru Murata (7-4) tossed six innings of baseball, giving up four earned runs on nine hits. He walked one and eliminated three on strikes.
Toledo drew first blood in this one via RBI singles from left fielder Jason Krizan and catcher John Hicks in the bottom of the second inning to make it 2-0, proving to be enough offense for the win.
Mud Hens designated hitter Dean Green's RBI double the next inning extended the Toledo lead to three in the third and Hicks delivered another RBI base hit in the sixth to increase the lead to 4-0.
Guillermo Quiroz's single plus a Toledo fielding error allowed Jesus Aguilar to put the first and only run on the board for the Clippers in the seventh inning.
The Clippers will conclude their five game road trip tomorrow against Toledo at 7:05 p.m. before returning to Huntington Park for a pit stop against their division rival Louisville on Saturday night.
