Clippers Battered by Toledo in Finale of Road Trip

August 28, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The post division clinching celebration has not gone well for the Columbus Clippers so far.

In their brief, two game pit stop in Toledo to take on their in-state rivals, the Clippers (78-56) were held to just two runs, as the Mud Hens (63-71) emerged victorious again at Fifth Third Field on Friday night by a final score of 5-1.

The pitching of Jordan Zimmermann, Cesar Ramos (1-3), Logan Kensing and Blaine Hardy combined to stall the Clippers bats for another night, holding them to just one run on six hits.

Toledo got on the board in the fifth inning via second baseman Argenis Diaz's RBI single scoring John Hicks. A wild pitch from Columbus starter Adam Plutko (6-5) later in the inning allowed third baseman Pedro Ciriaco to come home from third base, giving the Hens a 2-0 lead, proving to be enough offense for the win.

Plutko suffered the loss as the starter for Columbus, giving up five earned runs on eight hits while walking three batters and striking out four.

Jesus Aguilar's team leading 26th home run in the year in the ninth inning prevented the Mud Hens shutout.

Tomorrow night, the Clippers return home to Huntington Park to take on division rival Louisville with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Shawn Haviland (1-1, 2.66 ERA) will take the mound for Columbus against Rookie Davis (0-1, 7.58 ERA) for the Bats. The one, the only, Breakin' Bboy McCoy will make a showing at the ballpark tomorrow! Enjoy an appearance from the break-dancing bat boy!

Hey fans, the drive for 600,000 is ON! If the Clippers reach 600,000 in paid attendance at Huntington Park this season, then YOU can catch the back to back to back International League West Division Champions in the playoffs for FREE. Get your tickets for the remaining five home games here.
