Firebirds Fall to Knights 3-1 in First Visit to London

London, Ont. - Flint's Brent Moran made 39 saves and Will Bitten scored the lone Firebirds goal in a 3-1 loss to the London Knights before more than 9,000 fans at the Budweiser Gardens and a national TV audience on Friday night (http://flintfirebirds.com/article/london010816) .

The Knights would get on the board first with 4:38 remaining in the opening frame. Moran made multiple saves before Christian Dvorak found Matthew Tkachuck backdoor for the Knights only even strength goal of the evening.

While London had position in the Flint zone, Will Bitten stripped Chris Martenet at the point, earning a clear breakaway alone on Tyler Parsons. Bitten sniped the puck over Parsons' shoulder to tie the score 1-1 7:22 into the second period.

The Knights would score the game-winning goal shorthanded when Moran denied Max Jones on a breakaway before Cliff Pu found the back of the net at 5:22 of the third period.

London would increase their lead to two goals on a backdoor pass from Tkachuk to Marner who scored for his 23 goal of the season and the final tally of the night. Luke Kirwan and Keenan Reynolds both played in their first game in a Firebirds uniform on Friday night.

Friday's game against the Knights will be re-broadcast throughout the United States on the NHL Network Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. (EST).

The Firebirds are back in action tomorrow as they return home to the Dort Federal Event Center to face the Niagara IceDogs. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. (EST) with the contest being televised live throughout the province of Ontario on the OHL Action Pak for cable subscribers on channel 461. Fans unable to attend Saturday's game can listen live in Flint and Mid-Michigan on 1330 AM WTRX Sports Radio (http://www.wtrxsports.com/) and around the world online on the iHeartRadio app (http://www.iheart.com/live/sports-xtra-1330-5506/) . Dominic Hennig will call the play-by-play action on the Flint Firebirds Hockey Radio Network. Pregame coverage will begin 30 minutes prior to puck drop at 7:00 p.m.

Finnish defenseman Vili Saarijî=A4rvi will make his debut at the Dort Federal Event Center after earning a Gold Medal in the 2016 World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland. Saarijarvi and former Firebirds' goaltender and netminder for the Bronze Medal winning USA Alex Nedeljkovic, will be honored prior to puck drop Saturday evening.

All Flint Firebirds home games in the month of January are "Food Drive" games where fans can bring in five canned or boxed food items and receive $5 off a silver ticket.
