Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - At the second annual Faceoff Against Dementia fundraiser, the Peterborough Petes and Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland & Haliburton raised over $16,000.
Manon Rhéaume, the only woman to have ever played in the NHL (Tampa Bay Lightning) was on hand for the ceremonial puck drop and to sign autographs and take photos with fans during the Petes' game against the archrival Oshawa Generals. Although the Generals prevailed in a thrilling 4-3 shootout, fans enjoyed a fun game while supporting a great cause.
Aside from donations accepted at the Manon Rhéaume meet and greet, the Alzheimer Society raised money through a chuck-a-puck, a $4 fundraising ticket promo code, silent auction, bucket pass coordinated by Peterborough Police and Fire Services, and through the sale of Peterborough's famous Murney suckers. The first annual event in January, 2015 raised $12,000.
"We were delighted with the response of the community with our first annual hockey game and are thrilled with the support of both the Peterborough Petes and the Oshawa Generals," added Susan Dunkley, Alzheimer Society Fund Development Coordinator.
Peterborough won the first annual Faceoff Against Dementia trophy in 2015 in a 1-0 game against Oshawa, but the Generals will get to hold the hardware until the 3rd annual showdown in January 2017. Fans looking to support the Alzheimer Society further are encouraged to attend the Walk for Alzheimer's on January 31.
The Petes are back on the ice on Friday night in Ottawa before hosting the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday, January 10, 2016 at 7:05pm. Tickets are still available at the PMC Collins Barrow Box Office online, in person, or by phoning (705) 743-3561.
