Faedo Sharp Again for Erie
June 18, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie Piñatas (SeaWolves) dropped the middle game of a three-game series to the Portland Sea Dogs, 2-1, on Tuesday night at UPMC Park. Erie finished the first half of the Eastern League season with a 31-34 record.
Erie starter Alex Faedo was sharp once again in a no-decision effort on Tuesday. The right-hander tossed 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Faedo has now allowed two runs or fewer in his past five starts and has racked up 35 strikeouts while only walking five in that span.
Portland broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh against Erie reliever Ethan DeCaster. Brett Netzer led off with a single and scored on a Luke Tendler double for a 1-0 lead.
The Dogs added a run in the eighth. Bobby Dalbec led off with a walk and Joey Curletta singled to put two on base. Erie summoned Zac Houston to attempt to get out of the jam. A wild pitch from Houston advanced the runners into scoring position. He struck out Tate Matheny for the first out and got the second out when Chace Numata picked off Dalbec at third. With two outs, Netzler walked to keep the inning going for Tendler who knocked in Curletta with his second RBI hit.
Erie's lone run came in the bottom of the ninth against Portland reliever Adam Lau. With one out, Isaac Paredes belted a solo home run to left, his fourth of the season. Lau walked Frank Schwindel to put the tying run on base with two outs but he struck out Kody Eaves to end the game to earn his fourth save.
Portland starter Matthew Kent (2-2) was sharp hurling seven scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, both to Derek Hill, with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.
DeCaster (1-1) took the loss allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and no strikeouts. It was the first runs allowed by DeCaster since May 8 against Akron.
The SeaWolves look to avoid a series sweep on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. RHP Anthony Castro (1-1, 5.13 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Konner Wade (1-1, 4.15 ERA). Wednesday features a Summer Camp Day as the SeaWolves welcome area camps and senior groups to the game. UPMC For Life will host a Senior Expo with displays about health, wellness and senior services. Fans can also save $2 off their regularly priced ticket by showing their AAA membership card at the ticket window.
