Hartford Yard Goats News Release

HARTFORD, CT- Bowie southpaw Bruce Zimmerman fired a complete-game, nine-inning shutout, pitching the Baysox to a 2-0 win over the Hartford Yard Goats Tuesday night, before 4,894 at Dunkin' Donuts Park. He out pitched Yard Goats' lefty Jack Wynkoop, who turned in his longest outing of the season, eight innings. The loss eliminated Hartford from playoff contention on the last day of the first-half of the Eastern League season. The second-half starts Wednesday night against Bowie. The Yard Goats finished the first-half at 37-30. The contest was delayed 49 minutes at the start, because of inclement weather.

Zimmerman held Hartford to four hits, retiring the last 17 batters, after Alan Trejo reached him for a one-out single in the fourth inning. He did not walk a batter and struck out nine. After Mason McCoy opened the game with a single, Ademar Rifaela reached Wynkoop with a two-out, two-run homer above the ribbon board in right-center, for the game's only runs.

Wynkoop, making his franchise-record 54th start, allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out two. The Yard Goats were shutout for his second straight start. The game did not feature a walk. In his last 40 innings, Wynkoop has walked only two batters.

McCoy had three hits and Rifaela a home run and single to lead Bowie's nine-hit attack.

Game two of the three-game series is Wednesday at 7:05 PM. RHP Brandon Gold will start for Hartford against RHP Marcus Molina for Bowie. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410 AM, on 100.9 FM, in Spanish on 1120 AM and on the Internet on newsradio1410.iheart.com and on MiLB.com.
