Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Estero, FL- Led by four special team goals, the Florida Everblades defeated the Kalamazoo Wings 6-2 Friday night at the Germain Arena.

In their six previous games, the Everblades hadn't scored the game's first goal, that trend continued on Friday, when Trent Daavettila laid a drop pass to Sam Ftorek (1st). Ftorek looked off AJ Thelen, who was cutting to the net, and blasted a slap shot over the shoulder of Bobby Goepfert 3:43 into the first period.

Penalties marred the rest of the opening period for Kalamazoo. Heading to the penalty box three times in the first, the K-Wings surrendered two power-play goals to the 'Blades. Capitalizing on a five-on-three power-play, Francis Lemieux (2nd) deflected a Kyle Lawson blue line slap shot to tie the game at 1-1.

Late in the period, Mathieu Roy (2nd) found a loose puck in front of Garrett Zemlak, who was making his K-Wings debut, and beat the netminder with a deke to score the go-ahead power-play tally.

Tying the game at 2-2 early in the second period, Brendon Svendsen (1st) stole the puck in the neutral zone and scored shorthanded. The goal extended Svendsen's point streak to four games.

Two minutes after Svendsen's goal, Florida regained the lead with a tally from Matt Beca (1st). Kalamazoo looked poised to tie the game back up with a power-play; however, Alex Hutchings (2nd) deflected a K-Wings shot. The puck went right to the blade of Mathew Pistilli, who quickly passed it to Hutchings for a breakaway goal.

Fighting for the puck near the K-Wings net, Mitch Fadden (2nd) tacked on a late second period goal to push the 'Blades lead to three goals.

Placing salt into the K-Wings wounds, Pistilli (3rd) added another shorthanded goal with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game to give the Everblades the four-goal victory.
