BOISE, ID â The Florida Everblades (5-6-0) lost 4-2 to the Idaho Steelheads (7-3-0) on Saturday night at the Bank of America Centre in Boise, Idaho. The win gave the Steelheads a 2-1 season series win, as the Everblades closed out their season-long 7-game road trip with a 2-5-0 record.
After allowing the first goal of the game in the first two games of the series, the Steelheads broke through first tonight when Greg Keith notched his first professional goal at 8:08 of the opening period when he flipped a shot up over the glove of Everblades goaltender Rob Zepp. The quiet first period saw the âBlades manage just two shots and the Steelheads take only five shots.
Florida battled their way back into the game with a pair of goals in the second period. Damian Surma notched his league-leading 9th goal of the season at 2:39 of the middle period to tie the game at one. After the Steelheads regained the lead on David Cornaccia's third goal of the season at the 14:00 mark, the âBlades re-tied the game just 2:41 later when rookie Chris Hodgson notched his second goal of the season. Rookie Greg Hornby eanred his first professional point with an assist on Hodgson's goal.
Idaho collected two goals in the third period to seal the win. Jonathan Zion gave the Steelheads their third lead of the night with a power play goal at the 7:00 mark of the third for a 3-2 Idaho lead, and Scott Burt closed out the scoring at 17:50 of the final period converting a breakaway by pushing Zepp and the puck into the net for the 4-2 advantage. Despite hard pressure at the Idaho net in the closing minute with the goaltender pulled, Florida couldn't close the gap.
Zepp suffered the loss for the Everblades, allowing four goals on 19 Idaho shots, and saw his record fall to 3-3-0. Doyle picked up the win for Idaho stopping 24 of 26 Florida shots, which brought his record to 6-2-0. Florida finished the night 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Steelheads finished 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
