Louisiana IceGators News Release

Biloxi, MS – In his first game as a pro, rookie Nathan Marsters stopped 43 of 44 shots in 65 minutes of hockey and stopped all 4 tries in the shootout to give the Gators a 2-1 win and a sweep of the weekend series against their arch rivals in Biloxi.

Nathan Marsters, who had not played competitively since his final college game last March at RPI, was razor sharp from the opening drop of the puck stopping 17 Sea Wolves shots in the first period. The Sea Wolves crashed the net on every opportunity were not able to rattle the 24 year old netminder, who was perfect in stopping 3 power plays from the Sea Wolves including a brilliant glove save off Jeff Hutchins with under 3 minutes left in the period. Misssippi out shot the Gators 17-7 in the first period.

The second period was more territorial domination by the Sea Wolves as they out shot the Gators 15-5. Marsters giving up a rebound goal to Pat O'leary at 10:59 to give the home team a 1-0 lead. The Wolves had several chances to pad that lead including a shorthanded 2 on 0 breakaway but the Louisiana rookie continued to stone the opposition. With 1:18 in the period, the Gators were able to tie the score as Randy Dagenais' wrist shot from the left circle went top shelf on Matt Underhill and through 40 minutes the game was tied at one.

In the 3rd period and overtime neither team was able to dent the net. The Gators penalty killers stopping a 5 on 3 Sea Wolves power play midway through the 3rd. The IceGators have not allowed a power play goal on the road this season and are 22 for 22 on the PK away from the Cajundome.
