
Checkers improve to 6-1-1 after 4-1 victory over Augusta

Augusta, Georgia - Friday, November 12: The Charlotte Checkers continued their winning ways on the road Friday night with a 4-1 victory over the Augusta Lynx in Georgia. Charlotte got goals from four different players including Jason Dawe, Ryan Lang, Eddie Pershin and Dusty Jamieson. Lang's goal was his first as a professional while Jamieson's tally was his third in as many games. Rookie goalie Kelly Guard won his third straight in as many starts with 22 saves. Mike Harder had two assists to extend his point streak to eight games.
"It was a solid team performance tonight," remarked Charlotte coach Derek Wilkinson. "Our special teams improved tonight and Kelly Guard made some big saves when he had to."
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Checkers scored first at 5:06 of the second period as Dawe took a pass in the slot from Harder and rifled a shot by Lynx goalie Matus Kostur for a 1-0 Charlotte lead. At 9:33 of the period Lang came into the Augusta zone with Matt Chandler on a two-on-one. The rookie center decided to take the shot and scored his first marker of the season for a 2-0 Checkers lead. The Lynx got back into it after the Checkers got called for four consecutive minor penalties. On the fourth Augusta power play of the period, Louis Goulet finally solved Guard at 19:19 and the Charlotte lead was cut to 2-1 after two periods.
In the third period the Checkers got their two-goal lead back as Pershin tipped in Dwight Helminen's pass down the slot at 6:52 for a 3-1 Charlotte advantage. Late in the period Jamieson got some additional insurance at 18:50 following Harder's setup for the 4-1 final.
The win improved the Checkers record to 6-1-1 for 13 points and kept them tied for first place with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL's Eastern Division of the American Conference. The Lynx fell to 3-4-0 for six points.
Charlotte will continues its' three-game road trip Saturday night in Greenville with a 7:05 p.m. face-off against the Grrrowl.
