Texas Wildcatters News Release
Columbia, S.C. (November 12, 2004) The Texas Wildcatters moved above .500 on the road for the time in team history with a 3-2 victory over the Columbia Inferno. Texas improved to 2-1-2 on the road this year and 2-4-2 over all.
Lou Dickenson buried the game-winning goal on a centering feed from John Snowden with 64 seconds remaining in the third period. Snowden brought the puck into the Inferno zone on a 2-on-1 and fed Dickenson for his second goal in as many games with the Wildcatters. Dickenson was assigned to Texas from the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League, last Sunday.
For the second straight game Texas fell behind early as Matt Ulwelling scored his first goal of the season 4:24 into the first period.
Aaron MacInnis (credited with the goal) tied the game at one, 23 seconds later, on a bomb from the left-point that deflected off of Texas forward Brad Voth and past Columbia netminder Rob McVicar on the stick side. Thomas Bellemare registered his first professional point, winning a battle along the left wing wall and feeding MacInnis at the blue line.
Andrew Ianiero gave Texas the lead late in the first period with the team's first shorthanded goal of the season. Dickenson setup the play, passing the puck into the slot for Ianiero's first goal of the year.
Brad Ralph tied the game at two half way through the second period with a blast from the top of the circle that beat Wildcatters' goalie Davis Parley over the right shoulder.
Parley improved his record to 2-1-1, stopping 33 shots, including 15 in the second period to earn the win. Rob McVicar (2-3-1) suffered the loss, turning away 23 of the 26 Texas shots he faced. Both teams failed to capitalize on their two power play opportunities.
The Wildcatters travel to Greenville for a pair of games, Sunday and Tuesday against the Grrrowl. The five-game road trip will conclude Wednesday in Charlotte when they face-off against the Checkers for the first time in team history.
Pensacola travels to Texas next Friday night for their first of five games this year at Ford Arena. Mid-Jefferson Hospital will be handing out #1 foam fingers to the first 1,000 fans in attendance to the game against the Ice Pilots. Saturday, November 20th the Wildcatters will unveil their third jersey against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. Both games start a 7:05.
