
Error in 9th Hands Chiefs 3-2 Win

Dayton, OH â The Peoria Chiefs took advantage of an error in the top of the 9th to defeat the Dayton Dragons 3-2 at Fifth Third Field Friday night in front of 8,400 fans. With the win the Chiefs snap a two game losing streak and move to 18-23 on the season, 12-10 on the road.
With one out in the 9th and the game tied 2-2, Sam Fuld drew a walk from Dayton reliever Carlos Bohorquez. With Eric Patterson batting Bohorquez unleashed a wild pitch and Fuld accelerated and dove into third base taking two bases and getting into scoring position. With the infield drawn-in, Patterson hit a sharp one hopper that was booted by the Dragons shortstop Paul Janish allowing Fuld to score the go-ahead run.
Dayton native Jerry Blevins entered for the Chiefs in the ninth and nailed down his seventh save of the season. Blevins struck out the first two Dragons before walking Drew Anderson on a 3-2 pitch. The left-hander responded by blowing away Cody Strait with a fastball to end the game.
With the game scoreless in the 3rd, Fuld led off by drawing a walk from Dragons starter Joe Wilson. Fuld stole second and moved to third on a single by Patterson. Aaron Sisk collected his second RBI in as many games with a single into left scoring Fuld with the games first run. After a wild pitch and a strikeout, Patterson scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Mallory for a 2-0 Chiefs lead.
Lee Gwaltney no-hit the Dragons through 5 1/3 innings until Phil Gentry broke up the no-hit bid with a one out single in the 6th. Paul Janish drew a walk and Ben Himes singled to load the bases with one out. Gwaltney hit Jeremiah Piepkorn with a pitch to force in a run. A groundout from Tonys Gutierrez scored Janish and tied the game 2-2 before Gwaltnye retired Habelito Hernandez to end the inning.
Gwaltney allowed two runs on two hits over six innings. The right hander took a no-decision striking out four and walking two in his seventh start of the season. Left handed reliever Ed Campusano (2-2) picked up the win allowing just one hit in two inning of work.
Wilson lasted just four innings for Dayton before reaching his pitch count. He gave up two runs on five hits while striking out three and walking two. Brad Morenko tossed four innings of scoreless ball before Bohorquez (0-2) pitched the 9th.

Eric Patterson (2B) â Back in the leadoff spot, Patterson walked to start the game, singled and scored in the 3rd and his groundball brought home the winning run in the 9th inning. Patterson finished 1-for-4 with a walk and one run scored Notes...The crowd was the largest the Chiefs have played in front of all season...Peoria was 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position...Mike Mallory and Eric Patterson both extended their hit streaks to four games...Blevins has not allowed a run in the 9th inning all season...Game three of the four game series is Saturday at 7:00 PM EST...The Chiefs will have RH Matt Weber (1-5) on the mound against RH Ramon Ramirez (0-1)...The game can be heard on 1350 WOAM and www.peoriachiefs.com.
