Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (19-21) ended the Swing of the Quad Cities (23-17) seven-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory at Community Field tonight. The win evens this series at a game apiece.
The Bees got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. With one out Miguel Vega walked, Robert Grana singled, and Geraldo Valentin ripped a double to left to plate the first run. Valentin was picked off second for the second out, but Ed Lucas walked setting up Mario Lisson for an RBI single to make it 2-0. The Bees got their final run thanks to a couple of errors in the fourth. Alan Moye reached on an error by Jake Mullinax at third and went to second on a groundout by Eddie Solis. On a pitch in the dirt, Moye took off for third. Catcher Brandon Yarbrough recovered and the ball, but threw it into left field for an error allowing Moye to score. The Bees wouldn't score again. Starter Matt Scherer (1-2) worked through six innings and struck out six in the loss. Dennis Medina and Kyle McClellan each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
Bees' starter Patrick Green (2-1) cruised through a career-high 6.2 innings. The Swing loaded the bases with one out in the second, but Green got a comebacker and a lineout to get out of the inning. The Swing only had one more base runner before a two-out single by Mullinax in the seventh. That hit kept the inning alive for Mike Ferris who line a two-run homer over the wall in right to get the Swing on the board and within one. Green gave way to Gabe DeHoyos who got Yarbrough on a comebacker to end the inning and then finished the game for his second save. DeHoyos allowed just one single and struck out one.
The Bees and Swing continue this series tomorrow night at 6:00 at Community Field. LH Danny Christensen (0-1, 4.43) will start for the Bees against RH Dennis Dove (4-2, 3.09) for the Swing. The gates will open at 5:00 for a Wendy's Family Night at "The Hive." Mom, Dad, and all the kids in your house get in for $14 and Louisa Communications will give away a bicycle. The Bees also have some special things planned for Armed Forces Night at the ballpark. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 5:40.
