Defense dooms L-kings in series opener

Clinton LumberKings News Release

@ Wisconsin 4, Clinton 1

Kyle Rogers (6.25 ERA) broke through with his best start of the year, blanking the Timber Rattlers on three hits and three walks over five innings, fanning six along the way, but the L-Kings were held in check all night and an unfortunate relief appearance by the usually dominant Chris Jaile (0-1; 1.19) led to three late Wisconsin runs that proved to be the difference.

Andrew Wishy doubled for his only hit in three trips to drive in Clinton's only run.

In the Wisconsin sixth, Jaile started off with a ground out and then induced a grounder to Tug Hulett which should have been the second out, but was instead the first of Hulett's two errors. Lizahio Baez bailed Clinton out by throwing the runner out at second. The next hitter singled, but was also thrown out trying to steal on Baez.

In the seventh, Hulett committed his second error which led to Wisconsin's decisive inning. With two out and two on, a throwing error by the second baseman allowed one to score. In the next at-bat, a throwing error by third baseman Emerson Frostad allowed two to score, with all three runs going on Jaile's ledger as unearned runs.
