Erie Drops Slugfest in Trenton 13-12

Erie loses a slugfest and the series in Trenton, 13-12. Erie belted a season high 18 hits and had a two run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, to watch it slip away.

Trenton's Austin Romine hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first to give the Thunder a 1-0.

Trenton added another run in the second as Melky Mesa and Zoilo Almonte led of the inning with a pair of singles. After a groundout by Jose Pirela, Jose Gil scarified Mesa across to give Trenton a 2-0 lead.

Jamie Johnson led of Erie's third inning with a single. With one out Rawley Bishop reached on an error by third baseman Addison Maruszak, putting Johnson on third. Deik Scram singled in Erie's first run to trim the lead to 2-1.

Erie tied the game in the fourth as Bryan Pounds and Audy Ciriaco led off the inning with a pair of singles. With two outs, John Murrian crushed the ball off the wall in left field to tie the score at 2-2.

Rob Lyerly would break the tie with a solo homerun in the fourth to give Trenton a 3-2 lead.

Erie took a huge lead in the top of the sixth plating seven runs on four hits and three walks. With one out, Ciriaco single followed by a Michael Bertram walk. Murrian picked up his second RBI with a single to center. Erie would pick up another run off the bat of Rawley Bishop as picked up his team leading 48th RBI. Deik Scram singled to drive in two more. Erie would add three more in the inning to take a 9-3 lead.

Trenton would chip away at the lead in the bottom of the sixth adding three runs off of Ramon Garcia. Erie still leads 9-6

Trenton would regain the lead with four runs in the seventh. Maruszak started the inning of with a double over the head of Pounds in left. Singles by Ray Kruml, Corban Joseph, Romine, and Mesa all plate a run to give Trenton a 10-9 lead.

Erie would take the lead in the top of the eighth with three run. Francisco led of the inning with a single, followed by another off the bat of Pounds. Ciriaco would double driving in Martinez. With one out, Murrian would pick up his third RBI of the afternoon driving in Pounds from third. Johnson would fly out to center picking up the sacrifice plating Erie's last run. Erie leads 12-10

Joseph started the inning off with a single off of reliever Austin Wood. After a walk, to Romine, Lyerly single driving in Joseph. Trenton would tied the game on a throwing error by Martinez. Almonte would drive in the game winning run as Trenton wins 13-12.

Austin Wood (4-4) got the loss giving up three runs on three hits without getting an out in the ninth. The win goes to Chase Whitley (1-1), who worked two innings allowing three runs on five hits.

Erie will be back in action Thursday as they return home to host the Akron Aeros. RHP L.J. Gagnier (3-3, 4.42 ERA) takes the mound for Erie, as Akron will send LHP T.J. McFarland (6-4, 4.26 ERA).
