Pomeranz Sharp But Aeros Shutout by Curve

AKRON, OH - Left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz allowed just one earned run over five innings of work, but the Akron Aeros mustered only three hits as they were shutout by the Altoona Curve 4-0 in the finale of a three-game series Wednesday at Canal Park.

Pomeranz was saddled with the loss allowing three hits and striking out six while walking two.

Right-handed pitcher Kyle McPherson earned the win for Altoona tossing six scoreless innings, scattering two hits and striking out six while walking one. Right-hander Michael Dubee pitched two scoreless innings of relief to record the save.

The Curve (40-56) got on the board in the top of the third inning when Brad Chalk scored on a Starling Marte sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

Altoona scored two more runs on back-to-back RBI doubles from Brock Holt and Andrew Lambo in the top of the eighth inning to make it 3-0.

The Curve added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning and went on to the win.

The Aeros (51-47) will head to Erie to begin a four-game series with the SeaWolves Thursday. Akron will give the ball to left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland, who is 6-4 with a 4.26 ERA in 2011. Erie has yet to announce a starter for Thursday's game. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m.
