BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today the winner of the Name The Fish contest. The team's new "Pitching Fish" alternate logo is named Rocko, a name submitted by Devin Abrams of Millersville, Md. For submitting the winning name, Abrams will throw out a ceremonial first pitch and receives a personalized alternate jersey featuring the logo, a luxury suite for a game, and eight tickets to a game.

Baysox Director of Marketing Brandan Kaiser helped judge the entries. "We had a ton of great suggestions for the fish's name," Kaiser said. "We want to thank everyone that participated. Louie and the Baysox staff had the tough job of picking a name for the fish. The name Rocko exemplifies the fish's demeanor and the type of fish as a combination of the Rockfish and Oyster Toadfish."

The Name the Fish Contest was announced on Wednesday, April 13, and submissions were accepted from Opening Night Thursday, April 14, through Thursday, July 7.

The "Pitching Fish" is a combination of the Rockfish or Striped Bass and the Oyster Toadfish. Those two species were selected because both thrive in a healthy Bay. The Baysox wear black jerseys with the alternate logo every Friday night. In conjunction with the new logo, the Baysox have partnered with the Chesapeake Bay Trust to help raise funds for the independent, nonprofit grant-making organization.
