Engelhardt loaned to AHL St. John\'s

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that rookie forward Brett Engelhardt has been loaned to the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.

Engelhardt currently leads the Gladiators and all ECHL rookies in goals scored with 14 on the season and ranks second among all ECHL scorers in that category. The Sheboygan, Wisconsin native has also chipped in 9 assists on the season for 23 points placing him in the top 10 in scoring in the ECHL.

The rookie recorded the first home hat-trick in Gladiators history at the Arena at Gwinnett Center with 3 goals in an 8-4 win over South Carolina on November 25th. Engelhardt also strung together a four game goal-scoring streak with at least one goal in consecutive games from November 17th to November 26th, the longest goal-scoring streak this season for the Gladiators.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound rookie ranked fourth in scoring with Michigan Tech during his senior season last year posting 25 points in 38 games. He ranked first in scoring with 32 points during his sophomore season (2001-02) at Michigan Tech scoring 16 goals and 16 assists.

Engelhardt appeared in 2 games last season with the Philadelphia Phantoms recording 1 point off an assist in a 3-0 win against Norfolk on March 31st. This season, Engelhardt began the year in St. John's as he attended the Maple Leaf's training camp before coming to Gwinnett.
