Brad Dexter receives Top Honours
December 14, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC â Veteran defenseman Brad Dexter has played much larger than his 5'10, 180 lb frame this past week, and has been handed the ECHL In Glas Co Player of the Week award for December 6-12.
The Brockville Ontario native helped lift the Victoria Salmon Kings to a record of 3-0-1, averaging more than 30 minutes a game and finished the week with seven points (2 goals and 5 assists) at plus four. Dexter is always on the ice at crucial times and often against the opposing teams best players. The smooth skating point man is the quarterback of the Salmon Kings power-play and provides solid defensive zone play on the penalty kill.
Dexter had an assist and finished plus three in the Salmon Kings debut on Vancouver Island, leading the team to a 5-2 win against the division rival Bakersfield Condors. The 30 year old two time Kelly Cup Champion has been a consummate leader on and off the ice and has provided the Salmon Kings confident intelligent hockey. On a defensive squad that has been decimated by injury, Dexter has continued to pad his stats and leads the league in assists (14) and in points (19) by a defenseman. Dexter's five goals and one game winner has him tied for the league lead by a defenseman and he is currently on a six game point streak (3 goals and 5 assists).
"We are very glad to have Brad Dexter on our hockey club," said coach and general manager Bryan Maxwell, "there is no other player that plays 40 minutes a game like Dexter, there is only one Brad Dexter in the this league."
The Victoria Salmon Kings organization would like to extend congratulations to Brad Dexter for his selection as the In Glas Co Player of the Week by the ECHL. Brad is the first player chosen for a significant award from the Salmon Kings. On Brad's behalf, In Glas Co, the ECHL's exclusive puck supplier, will donate a case of pucks to a Victoria area youth hockey association.
The Salmon Kings also nominated Netminder Jason Stone for the Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week. Stone finished the week of December 6-12 with a record of 3-0-1 and has played every minute of the teams' current home stand. Stone finished as a runner-up for the award and has been also recognized by the ECHL. Jason had an outstanding week and has given the Salmon Kings solid goaltending since becoming the team's starter.
