Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
COLWOOD, British Columbia â The Mississippi Sea Wolves scored a power-play goal in both the second and third period to break open a tie game and propel past the Victoria Salmon Kings 4-2 at Bear Mountain Arena.
The victory gives Mississippi a mini two-game win streak on its season-high six-game road trip, while Victoria is winless in its last two contests, both at home.
"I thought we played extremely well," Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. "All of our three lines were clicking and it was an excellent effort by everyone. It's nice to get two wins in Canada and head into Alaska on a positive note."
Mississippi (9-10-2, 20 points) opened the score at 7:25 of the first period. Anthony Battaglia notched his sixth of the campaign getting the puck past goalie Jason Stone. Assists went to Nicolas Corbeil and Louis Dumont, who extended his point streak to four games.
Victoria (6-11-3, 15 points) tied it up on the second goal of the season by Derek Campbell, who beat Sea Wolves goaltender Jason Wolfe at 10:54. Blue Bennefield and Jeff Williams garnered helpers.
Salmon Kings took a 2-1 lead on the power play. Bennefield picked up his second point of the period and scored his fifth goal of the season. The goal came at the 15:01 mark and was assisted by Nate Forster and Brad Dexter, who leads all ECHL defensemen with 14 assists and 19 points.
Still in the first, the Sea Wolves got back on even terms as Darryl Campbell deposited his second of the year, which was set up by Kerry Ellis-Toddington and Lucas Drake.
In the second, Jay Legault scored a power-play goal to give Mississippi the lead back at the 8:08 mark. The goal for Legault was his second on the campaign and gave the forward points in four straight games. Dumont and Chris Cava collected assists.
Sea Wolves scored another power-play tally in the third to add insurance. Rookie defenseman Mike Jarmuth fired home his fifth of the season at 10:10 to make it 4-2 for Mississippi with helpers going to Battaglia and Corbeil.
Additional notes: Mississippi's Jeff Hutchins had his four-game goal streak stopped with seven tallies over that span ... Victoria's Mike Barrie was held off the scoresheet to halt his point streak at 11 games, which is the second highest in the ECHL this season. Barrie had three goals and 15 assists over that stretch.
Mississippi went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Victoria converted on 1-of-9 opportunities with the man advantage. Salmon Kings outshot the Sea Wolves 30-26.
