
Durno's pair of goals lifts Gladiators over IceGators, 4-2

Chris Durno tallied two goals while Sean Fields made 42 saves to help the Gwinnett Gladiators past the Louisiana IceGators 4-2 on Tuesday night at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Mike Vigilante broke a scoreless tie on the power play with 3:09 remaining in the opening period. Jeff Campbell picked up an assist on the goal as he found Vigilante wide open on the off wing and threaded the puck through the slot to set up Vigilante's 12th goal of the season. Brad Schell also picked up an assist on the power play goal for the Gladiators.
Despite numerous opportunities in the opening period, Gladiators netminder Sean Fields kept the IceGators off the board, stonewalling Louisiana on a pair of breakaways and making 16 saves in the first period.
Jeff Campbell gave the Gladiators a 2-0 lead at 8:29 of the second period as he picked up his own rebound and rolled the puck past Louisiana netminder Nathan Marsters for his 12th goal of the season. Peter Flache added an assist on the goal for the Gladiators. Louisiana got on the board about a minute later as Wes Mason picked up a rebound and slid the puck past Fields for the tally. Fields made the initial save on Mason's point blank shot from the slot at 9:35 of the second period but couldn't corral the rebound. David Bararuk added an assist on the goal.
Gwinnett regained a two-goal advantage on Chris Durno's 8th goal of the season. Durno took an outlet pass from Ryan Van Buskirk and broke down right wing and ripped a snapshot past Marsters for the tally at 15:55 of the period. Mike Stathopoulos also picked up a helper on the tally.
Jake Ortmeyer was able to rip a puck out from underneath the netminder Fields and flip the puck into the net for the IceGators' second goal of the night. Max Fortunas and Bararuk added the assists on the shorthanded goal at 17:07 of the second period.
Chris Durno's second goal of the night put the game away for the Gladiators at 6:57 of the final period. Durno put his first shot off a defenseman's leg in the slot, got the rebound and ripped a snapshot past Marsters for the tally. Joe Bourne and Van Buskirk added the assists on the Gladiators goal.
Fields finished the night with a season high 42 saves for the Gladiators who improve to 13-5-4 on the season. Gwinnett went 2-for-5 on the power play in the and remain unbeaten with a 10-0-2 record when Durno tallies a point for the Gladiators in a game.
