
Royals Release Forwardâ¦Sign Right Wing Pereira

Reading, PA â The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced the the activation and release of forward Aaron Smith. Recently acquired forward Joe Pereira has signed and has been placed on the seven-day injured list.
Smith, 25, was acquired from the Columbia Inferno on November 22. He hasn't skated in a game for the Royals this season. The Madison, Wisconsin native did appear in eight games with the Inferno prior to the trade. He tallied five assists and six minutes in penalties. Last season, Smith skated for the Texas Wildcatters and Indianapolis of the Central Hockey League.
Pereira, 24, was claimed off waivers by Reading on Saturday, December 11. He was released by the Peoria Rivermen where he suited up for five games was held scoreless with 16 penalty minutes. The Abbottsford, British Columbia native skated in 45 games in 2003-04 with Peoria and tallied a goal, ten points and racked up 109 minutes in penalties.
The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.
The Reading Royals finish their three-game homestand this Friday, December 13 against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. The game marks the final contest of 2004 for the reigning Northern Division Champions. Atlantic City claimed the first meeting, 1-0, in Boardwalk Hall, on October 30. Jake Moreland stopped 37 Royals offerings to record the shutout. This is the second of ten meetings scheduled in the regular season between these North Division rivals.
