Colorado Eagles News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -The Colorado Eagles (18-10-0-0) found themselves in a 2-0 deficit early in the first, but were able to rally and come out victorious over the Utah Grizzlies (11-13-2-2), 4-3, Saturday night at the Maverik Center.
Grizzlies forward Alex Krushelnyski caught a nifty back-handed pass from linemate Michael Pelech, at the top of the crease, to stuff home the first goal of the game, 1-0, 5:01 into the first frame. With 9:14 left in the first, Utah forward Brent Gwidt beat Eagles netminder Clarke Saunders, top-shelf, to take the 2-0 lead over the Eagles. Just over :30 later, Eagles forward Derek Rodwell answered from the high slot to cut the Grizzlies' lead in half, 2-1. With just under five minutes left in the first, Eagles defenseman Brett Kulak took a feed from forward Greg Gardner on the goal line to tie the score with the first power-play goal of the night, 2-2.
At the 14:16 mark of the second period, Grizzlies blue-liner Jacob Johnston tipped the puck over Saunders to give Utah the 3-2 edge over Colorado. The Eagles would find the equalizer as Rodwell threw the puck onto Grizzlies goalie Ryan Faragher with only :50 left in the second period. Less than :30 later, Eagles forward Darryl Bootland would give Colorado their first lead of the game, 4-3, with a shot from the circle.
The third period saw no scoring for either team. Faragher held off 23 of Colorado's 27 shots-on-net while Saunders shut down 18 of Utah's 21 shots for the 4-3 victory over the Grizzlies.
