LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (26-16-6-4) fell in a penalty-driven, exasperating 5-4 loss to the Stockton Thunder (26-21-0-5) on Sunday afternoon at the Budweiser Events Center.

Less than two minutes into the first frame Stockton forward Joey Martin found the back of the net from between the hash marks to give the Thunder the early 1-0 lead. Eagles forward Kevin Ulanski tied the game at 1-1 off of a cross-slot pass from fellow forward A.J. Hau, 6:40 into the first. Stockton forward Adam Brace netted the puck just seven seconds into a power-play after a tripping penalty called on Eagles captain Riley Nelson to take the lead back, 2-1. At the 10:27 mark Eagles Head Coach Chris Stewart was hit with a game misconduct penalty after showing his frustration with the officiating. With the Thunder on their second power play of the night, forward James Henry took Stockton to a 3-1 lead over the Eagles, 12:12 into the first. The Eagles finally answered with an even-strength goal from forward Trent Daavettila to cut the Thunder's lead to 3-2 going into the first intermission.

With the Eagles on a 5-on-3 power play, their first power play of the game, forward Jonathan Parker beat Stockton netminder Brain Foster to even the score, 3-3, 6:42 into the second period. Thunder forward Corey Trivino pulled Stockton back ahead, 4-3, with a goal from the low slot 15:31 into the second.

With just over three minutes left in the third period Brace pumped Stockton's lead to 5-3 as he beat Eagles goalie Marc Cheverie glove side after a rush down the right-wing boards. Eagles forward Kyle Ostrow made it a one-goal game, 5-4, with the team's second power-play goal of the afternoon, 18:21 into the third. The Eagles attempted to send the game to overtime by pulling Cheverie for the extra attacker but Foster held Colorado off to secure the 5-4 victory for Stockton.
