Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers 3-1 in Rabobank Arena on Saturday night, thanks to an early goal from forward Michael Neal. It was the seventh meeting between the two division rivals, who will be colliding a total of 14 times before the season concludes.
The Condors would draw first blood just 1:28 into the opening period with Neal grabbing his 13th of the season off feeds from Matt Thurber (18) and Erik Burgdoerfer (8).
With neither team able to break through in the second period, the 1-0 score held firm until the third and final frame. It was then where the Condors would extend their lead to 2-0 as Burgdoerfer netted his ninth of the year and second point of the night. The goal, which came on the power-play, ended a streak of 14 consecutive completed penalty-kills for the Wranglers, and was assisted by Chris Collins (18) and Greg Miller (22). The Wranglers' would fight back however, as Chad Nehring buried his 10th of the year with just 3:10 remaining on a short-handed bid, assisted by Matt Tassone (18), to cut the lead to 2-1. For Nehring, the goal was his 11th point in the last 12 games, as Tassone also continued his string of hot play, notching his eighth point in his last 10 contests.
Bakersfield would add on an empty netter off the stick of Gary Steffes (11) to ice the game, 3-1, with just 22 seconds remaining.
The Wranglers and Condors will face off once again on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7:05pm here in Las Vegas, with the first 1,000 fans in attendance receiving free Wranglers Trading Card sets. Following Tuesday's game Las Vegas will play a two-game home set against the Idaho Steelheads beginning on Friday, Feb. 28 and then concluding on Saturday, Mar. 1 where the team will don specialty "Hero Jerseys."
