Thunder Finish Season Series against Colorado

February 23, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release

The Stockton Thunder (25-21-0-5) finish off their three-game weekend set in Colorado against the Eagles (26-15-6-4) today. It's the final game of the season series between the two teams. The game starts at 1:05 p.m. PST.

Fans can watch the game at the Thunder's "home away from home" the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel while enjoying food and drink specials. The broadcast starts at 12:45 p.m. PST with the Black Oak Casino Resort pre-game show. Live video is available through AmericaONE while fans can listen to free live audio through Spreaker.com and StocktonThunder.com.

The Thunder are coming off a 4-3 overtime win against the Eagles on Saturday night as Ryan Constant scored his seventh goal of the year to give his team their fourth overtime victory this season. Constant blasted a slap shot into the net with just 1:12 remaining in the extra frame. The win brings the Thunder's record to 14-3-0-5 in games decided by one goal this year.

Corey Trivino is also coming off a standout performance for the team. The 24-year-old Toronto, ON native had three points (one goal, two assists) for his first points with the Thunder since his return from a ten-game stint in the AHL with the Portland Pirates. Trivino played a hand in each of the team's first three goals, bringing him to 27 points in 33 ECHL games this year.

Joey Martin and Constant also had multi-point games for the Thunder. Martin scored a goal, his 15th of the year, and added an assist. His tally with 58 seconds remaining in the first period moved him into second on the team in goals scored, behind only recently traded forward Greg Miller's 17. Martin also now sits seventh in the ECHL in total points with 49 and fourth in the league in assists with 34.

The Thunder will once again be without defenseman Shawn Boutin who has been placed on the 21-day IR after picking up an injury in Friday's loss to the Eagles. Ben Rosen took his place on the blue line for Saturday's game, a role the former defenseman-turned-center at Boston University has played before for the Thunder.

The power play unit has been a point of concern for the Thunder who are 0-for-8 against the Eagles this weekend, and 0-for-15 with the man advantage in their last three games. They still lead the league in power play goals with 42 and power play conversion percentage at 20.3%.

The Eagles are led by forwards Trent Daavettila and Kyle Ostrow who each have nine points in their six games against the Thunder. They were held to just one assist each in Saturday's game after combining for five points in the Eagles 6-4 win on Friday. Their line mate Kyle Kraemer had two goals in Colorado's overtime defeat.

Today's game finishes off the Thunder's tough February schedule that feature ten road games and just two contests at Stockton Arena. The Thunder next return to the ice on March 2, when they host the Ontario Reign. However, before then, Thunder season ticket holders will have a chance to see the team compete in the Bulletproof Energy Skills and Drills competition on Wednesday, February 26, at 6:30 p.m. Team captains Garet Hunt and Ryan Constant will pick teams from the current Thunder roster to compete in five events. Players from the Stockton Colts junior hockey team will also join in the event. For more information, season ticket holders can contact their ticket representative in the Thunder office or check out the e-mail blast about the event.
