Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles picked up their fourth win in a row with a 6-3 victory against the Utah Grizzlies in the second game of a three game set at the Budweiser Events Center this week. Once again, Colorado's special teams helped pave the way to victory, as the Eagles went 3-for-5 on the power play and killed 7-of-8 Utah power plays.

Utah opened the scoring with an early power-play tally when Kory Falite (who scored their only goal in the previous game, also on a power play) snapped a shot past Kyle Jones from between the circles.

Colorado countered seven minutes in when Jack Combs threw the puck toward the crease from the left wall, finding a crashing Chad Costello wide open on a back-door play that included no communication between the two longtime linemates. The Eagles took a 2-1 lead at 13:14 when rookie Arthur Bidwill picked up his second power-play goal in as many games, both resulting from shots from the right point that deflected off a defender.

Utah tied the game back up four minutes into the second period when Paul McIlveen scored a shorthanded goal following a turnover in the neutral zone. Colorado looked to go back up two minutes later when Ray Kaunisto powered down the right wing and then made a strong move toward the net. The puck found its way past goalie Andrew Engelage before Kaunisto was knocked into him, but referee Frederic Leblanc waived off the goal, citing incidental contact.

Undeterred, the Eagles took a 3-2 lead with another power-play goal at 17:49 when Trent Daavettila carried the puck into the offensive zone, found some space along the left wing and sent a saucer pass to Joey Sides for a one-timer from the right circle.

Colorado pushed that lead to 4-2 on a rush just 19 seconds into the final frame when Kaunisto dropped a pass for Daavettila entering the offensive zone, leading to a blast from the point that deflected off of Ryan Schnell on the doorstep. About 11 minutes later, Collin Bowman picked up his first professional goal with a shot from the left point that trickled over the goal line to make it 5-2.

The Grizzlies were awarded three consecutive power plays after that marker, and they were finally able to convert on the last one when Drew MacKenzie's shot from atop the left circle trickled past Jones' glove with three minutes left in the period. But less than two minutes later, Colorado countered with their own power-play goal when Bowman picked up his second goal of the period -- and his career -- with a blast from the point.
