November 9, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- Avenging a loss to the Kalamazoo Wings (6-5-0-0) two days before, the South Carolina Stingrays (5-7-1-0) bounced back with a decisive 5-1 victory at Wings Stadium.
A pair of turnovers led to two first period goals for the Stingrays. Stealing the puck at the blue line, Shawn Welller tipped it ahead to Matthew Pistilli for his third goal of season 2:48 into the game.
Pinching along the boards nearly 10 minutes later, Stingrays leading scorer Tommy Cross (3rd) kept the puck in the zone and sent a quick wrister over the shoulder of Joe Cannata.
Cutting the deficit in half in the second period, Darren Archibald netted his team-leading third power-play goal of the season midway in the period. The tally was Archibald's fifth of the season, which ties the forward with Brett Lysak for the team-lead.
Elgin Reid and Sam Ftorek assisted on the Kalamazoo's first goal. The helper extends Ftorek's point streak to four games. Ftorek, who has earned points in seven out of the K-Wings last eight games, is tied with Lysak for the team lead in scoring with Lysak with 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists).
Putting a clamp on the Stingrays in the second period, the K-Wings outshot South Carolina 12-2 in the stanza, with Stingrays chances coming nearly 19 minutes apart.
Despite dominating the second period, Kalamazoo couldn't carry the momentum into the final period.
Any hopes the K-Wings had of a comeback ended in a span of 18 seconds, when Hunter Bishop (5th) and Dylan Clarke (2nd) scored midway in the period.
Closing out the scoring, Cross (4th) tacked on his second of the game with a power-play strike.
The victory snapped a four-game road losing streak for the Stingrays.
