Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, announced today that they have claimed defenseman Justin Pender off waivers from the Orlando Solar Bears.
Pender, 24, began the 2012-13 season with the Bakersfield Condors. In seven games Pender has scored one goal and recorded 11 penalty minutes. The St. John's, Newfoundland native returned to the Condors after spending most of the 2011-12 season with the team, where he posted 20 points (7g, 13a) leading the team in points by a defenseman. In 54 games he totaled 81 penalty minutes and plus-minus rating of -6. Prior to suiting up with the Condors, Pender was with the Toledo Walleye.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defenseman made his professional debut in the American Hockey League with the Lowell Devils in 2009 for two games where he earned an assist in each game. He played for the Trenton Devils from 2009-11 recording 31 points (9g, 22a) and 142 penalty minutes in 101 games.
Pender's four year junior career was spent with Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL. While with the Mooseheads he tallied 69 points (16g, 53a) in 203 games.
