EDUCATION IN HOCKEY DAY
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Riding a three game winning streak and still undefeated in regulation, the Cyclones put their ECHL-leading 6-0-2 record on the line tonight for the first of two games against the Greenville Road Warriors. All-time against the Road Warriors, Cincinnati has earned a 4-3-0-2 record - with a 1-2-0-1 mark at the BI-LO Center.
SCOUTING THE ROAD WARRIORS: Dean Stork's club in on a hot streak of their own, going unbeaten in regulation over their last seven games and winning eight out of their last ten. The Road Warriors sport the ECHL's sixth-best offense coming into the weekend, averaging 3.42 goals-per-game. Marc-Olivier Vallerand ranks third in the league in scoring with 16 points (4 goals, 12 assists) in 12 games. Third-year forward Brandon Wong is close on his heels with 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in 12 contests. Between the pipes, Greenville has used the services of two rookie goaltenders; Nathan Lieuwen has posted a 4-2-0 record with a 3.60 goals-against average while fellow first-year backstop Scott Stajcer has collected a 2-0-1 mark and a 2.61 GAA.
Making History: Cincinnati is in the midst of its best start in team history. The Cyclones 6-0-2 record is the best in the ECHL and marks the first time ever that the club has earned points in eight straight games to begin a season.
Southern Comfort: During the Jarrod Skalde era, Cincinnati has had tremendous success against their foes from the South, earning a 21-11-1-0 collectively. Against the Road Warriors, they are 4-2-0-2.
Foster...Australian for Winner: One of the major reasons for Cincinnati's success has been between the pipes. Third-year pro Brian Foster leads the league with six wins and ranks 10th among active ECHL goalies with a 2.40 goals-against average. Coming into the week, his 192 saves are sixth-most.
