May 16, 2016 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release
AUGUSTA, GA-- The Asheville Tourists were tested once again on Monday night; this time by the Augusta GreenJackets. Asheville carried a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning. Once Augusta scored twice the Tourists were forced to play their second extra-inning game in a row. In the 12th, Asheville managed a run, then closed out Augusta to secure a 3-2 victory.
Dylan Craig was tremendous for the Tourists. The left-hander tossed eight shutout innings and limited the GreenJackets to just three hits, all singles. Craig struck out five and departed with a 2-0 lead. Asheville's two runs came courtesy of Max George. The designated hitter drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth and plated Sam Hilliard with an RBI double in the sixth.
Kelvin Franco was unable to notch the save for the Tourists as the reliever walked the first two batters of the bottom of the ninth. After recording an out, Franco surrendered a two-run triple to Matt Winn which tied the game. Justin Lawrence entered and struck out Miguel Gomez. He then induced a groundout off the bat of Gustavo Cabrera to end the threat.
In extra innings, the Tourists had to escape a few jams. The biggest was in the bottom of the 11th after Juan Pena surrendered a lead-off triple. The Tourists right hander somehow found his way out of the inning with allowing the winning run to score.
In the top of the 12th, Yonathan Daza delivered an infield single that scored Carlos Herrera. Pena clinched the win with an uneventful bottom of the 12th. Josh Fuentes led the Tourists offensively with four of their 15 hits on the night.
