BlueClaws pitcher Jose Taveras was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 15th, it was announced Monday by League President Eric Krupa.
Taveras pitched on May 9th at Kannpolis and threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and retiring 21 of the 23 batters he faced in the BlueClaws win over the Intimidators.
Entering Monday night, he has a 2.28 ERA over 27.2 innings pitched with 33 strikeouts and 5 walks on the season. He began the year in the bullpen, but after five outings, in which he gave up 3 earned runs in 15.2 innings, he moved into the starting rotation on May 2nd.
Last year, Herlis Rodriguez was SAL Player of the Week twice.
